Plugins for Wordpress Blogs

One of my readers kindly mentioned that they would like to know what plugins I use and find helpful for this blog (a wordpress blog). Well, I’ve tried many, many, many plugins for this blog. Unfortunately most of them don’t ultimately do what I want or need so I delete them. But there are 2 plugins in particular that I will not live without!

1. Akismet - This plugin is designed to check all comments on your blog as they come in and determine whether they are spam or not.  Wow… this one is amazing and I don’t think any blog should be without it.  I don’t have to wade through all my comments to find the good ones, this plugin does it for me.  All I do is go in and review the ones Askimet finds to be spam and delete them.  Yes, every once in a while a spam comment does get through and sometimes a real comment goes to the spam section.  But this is VERY rare.  And makes my job of simply approving real comments so much easier.  You will need a WordPress.com API key to use it, but that is easy to get.

2. All in One SEO Pack - This is a cool little plugin that allows you to create each page within your blog so that it is optimised for the search engines.  You can change/add your meta tags… title, keywords, and description.  This means that now each page within your blog can be search engine optimized for your chosen keywords… that is amazing and VERY, VERY, VERY easy to do!

Like I said there are many, many more plugins available… some are good, some are not.  But these are the two that I do not go without.  If you have one (or more) that you love, please let us know about it!

Best Wishes,
Shannon

Discussed the plugins I use in depth on my blog at this post - http://wptutorial.com/blog/information/plugins-i-am-using-right-now

Getting the right set and making sure they work together is always the tough part. The downside of using open source products with multiple programmers creating things.

Thanks for that information Mike… I’ll have to take a look at a few of these :)

Another reputable plugin (for those adding flash components to their blog) is the Kimili Flash plugin. I use it to upload my Fauxmonials to blogs and it works great.

I’ll have to start using the Akismet one as well. Blogging is still pretty new for me. It took me a while to get going.

Great post,
Andy

A plugin that was suggested by a trusted resource is Duplicate content cure. It’s an SEO plugin that prevents search engines from indexing wordpress pages that contain duplicate content, like archives and category pages.

I also like cformsII because of the flexibility in creating forms with unique fields.

All the best,
Theresa

I have both (Akismet and All in One SEO Pack) and they’re great! I may try other plug-ins too, once I get around to choosing which one will probably works for me…
