How to Use Onlywire to Promote Your Site

Hello Everyone!

Back on July 10th I completed a post titled “My Schedule… Tuesday” where I talked about how I spend some time on Tuesdays to promote my sites via Onlywire.  I’ve since had a few people ask me if I could expand further on how I use Onlywire.  So now that I am done with the posts regarding what I do each day during the week, I thought I’d tackle a few questions I get asked quite often :)

Everytime I create a new website, I also create a new Onlywire account.  To create an Onlywire account (unless you are going to use their paid service) you need be able to place the code they give you on a website.  So this is why, as part of the website creation process, I sign up for a new account.  When I sign up for an account I create a unique username and password for the Onlywire account, then I use that same username and password to create all the accounts that are available within Onlywire.

One thing I want to point out is that I VERY RARELY sign up for every service within Onlywire.  I typically choose between 7 and 14 of them to sign up for (at random) depending on the mood I’m in that day :)  I do this as a way to prevent myself from looking like a spammer (that is NOT what we are trying to do here).  If you sign up for the exact same services for each Onlywire account you have and bookmark the exact same pages to every one of them, then you definately look like you are just spamming the system.  By choosing 7 to 14 random services for each account (and then randomly bookmarking each site, we’ll get into that in a minute) it is more natural and you will accomplish so much more with your sites than if you signed up for every single service and just bookmarked the same sites over and over and over again… that method makes you look like a spammer and nobody likes that much.  I hope this makes sense :)

Now that we have a new account created, the first thing I do is bookmark my new site (in the new Onlywire account and a couple of the old ones).  When bookmarking your websites, it is VERY, VERY important that you fill in the “tags” section with one of your keyword phrases. Utilizing this medium to bookmark your keyword phrases will increase the link count back to your website and that is what the search engines love… ALWAYS place your keyword phrases in the “tags” section!!!

Then I randomly choose 4 - 6 of my existing websites to bookmark.  And lastly, I also choose 5 - 15 random sites on the internet to bookmark.  These random sites can be anything on the Internet, any page about anything.  You are adding these in to once again make it look natural by not having all accounts with the exact same sites bookmarked.

I know to some of you by saying “random” it makes it seem so unorganized, but I am actually very organized and by bookmarking randomly we are staying in the borders of the rules and not spamming the bookmarking sites.  You get to stay organized with all these Onlywire accounts very easily because Onlywire keeps track of every site you have bookmarked within your account.  This is very nice, because you never have to worry about having already bookmarked a page or not :)  The only thing you will need to have available manually is a page that lists all your Username/Password combinations for your Onlywire accounts.  And, even this is automatic if you utilize a password autofill software, such as Roboform or something similar :)

So, create accounts, bookmark your websites randomly, bookmark various websites randomly, and repeat.  Because you create a new account with every website you create, you will forever be able to promote your old websites without much work :) :) :)

Best Wishes,
Shannon

I have been searching for a practical application of onlywire, I was confused as to whether, I would submit these bookmarks myself, or rely on readers. Thank You. 1 quick question - Do you recommend placing a link in your content before bookmarking, for the trackback, or does the bookmarking process make them irrelevant?

Hello Andrew,

I’m glad this helped :)

I don’t recommend it, but I also don’t discount it. I have done this myself from time to time, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. That is not to say that it wouldn’t if your were consistent with it though :)

Shannon

Hi Shannon:

Great post! Thanks for your insight. So, when you have your Onlywire accounts set up, do you bookmark just your domains or specific blog posts, and also, do you go back to bookmark new blog posts when you write them?

Do you find that your visitors are actually using the Onlywire button to bookmark your posts as well?

Thanks again!

Cheers,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

For my sites, I ultimately end up bookmarking every page I have for a site, so for my blog, I bookmark every blog post at one time or another. For my VCE sites, I bookmark the homepage and then when I add articles, I bookmark those article pages.

I don’t find that very many people bookmark my blogs… I have never really expected people to bookmark them.. but now that you bring it up if they want to that would be great :)

You also want to make sure you are bookmarking random pages on the internet that have nothing to do with your sites… MSNBC.com for example, a school site, a sports team site, just any random site you come across on the internet.

Shannon

Hi Shannon. Thanks so much for sharing all this information. I find your success very motivating.

I have two questions;
First, in one of your earlier replies to one of my comments you said the following:

“I will be updating everyone with statistics from the site I completed this Monday… using it as a case study to give people general stats over the next couple of months. So, that should help you as well”

Do you have any stats on that ‘new’ site you can share?

Second (and this could probably be a separate blog post itself) what methods or tools do you use to keep track of everything you need to do and everything you’ve already completed? Completed tasks, outstanding tasks, ongoing tasks etc etc. I’m sure it gets more and more difficult to stay organized as you add more sites.

Look forward to your replies

Jerry

Social bookmarking is one of the right internet marketing strategies and a extraordinary promotional instrument to set up your online business. But I believe that social bookmarking is a process you just cannot pass over if you need your business to actually start flying, also using a nice automatic bookmarking software is unquestionably the most powerful and cost effective way to do it.

slueck Says:

Hello,

Yes I agree that using a service such as Bookmarking Demon makes the process A LOT easier and yes more powerful. However, I know that people can’t always afford too many pieces of software, so if someone is struggling a bit and are going to skip buying something… then Onlywire will get the job done for you so that you can buy other products that I feel are vital for your success. If you have the money though, yes, use Bookmarking Demon

Best Wishes,
Shannon
